Is Remifemin menopause relief safe for women who should not take hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for the relief of menopausal symptoms?
Remifemin’s key ingredient is black cohosh, a plant medicine shown in more than 50 clinical studies to reduce the symptoms of menopause, including hot flashes and night sweats. As Remifemin does not contain plant estrogens, not does it increase or decrease estrogen levels, it can be safely used by women for whom HRT is contraindicated.
Is Remifemin safe for women with a history of breast cancer?
Remifemin is safe for use by women who have had breast cancer. The black cohosh extract used in Remifemin has been studied closely and found to not have estrogenic effects (in other words, it does not act like the hormone estrogen). Additionally, a pilot study of Remifemin use in women who had or were being treated for breast cancer found no significant adverse effects. To date, the results have demonstrated that black cohosh safely and effectively reduced hot flashes and night sweats.
Does Remifemin cause liver damage?
While very few herbal and nutritional supplements have been well researched, Remifemin has been the subject of over 50 clinical studies. In these studies, the women who took Remifemin (as opposed to a study’s placebo or prescription medication), not only had relief of their hot flashes and night sweats, they also experienced very few side effects. None of these studies found that Remifemin caused liver damage. In a recent study on Remifemin – because of the concerns regarding liver function – the researchers specifically monitored liver enzymes and found no adverse effects.
However, because of a few rare cases of liver disease reported after use of other black cohosh products (not Remifemin) we included a caution on the label recommending women contact their doctor or other healthcare practitioner prior to use if they have a history of liver disease.
Is Remifemin menopause relief safe to take with prescription medications?
While most prescription medications are safe to take with Remifemin, on the product’s box we caution women who are taking prescription medication to consult with their doctors before using our product.
Can I take more than 40mg of Remifemin menopause relief a day?
Most women notice relief of their hot flashes when taking 40mg (one tablet in the morning and one tablet in the evening) of Remifemin a day. This is the amount used in most of the clinical studied. However, women can safely increase their Remifemin dose to 80mg daily (two tablets in the morning and two in the evening) if additional support is needed. In clinical studies there have been no reports of any difference in side effects when women took 40mg of black cohosh or 80mg each day; the safety of both doses has also been established. When first starting Remifemin, you need to be a little patient. It takes a few weeks to notice improvements in your symptoms. Full benefits are generally realized after using Remifemin twice daily for 4-12 weeks.
