Should I eat POWERBAR HARVEST® for exercise fuel?
POWERBAR HARVEST® bars are a great energy choice when consumed 60-90 minutes before exercise. We also recommend drinking 8-16 ounces of water for each POWERBAR HARVEST® bar to help maintain hydration. POWERBAR HARVEST® bars are ideal for activities like golf, hiking or less strenuous workouts. If you’re exercising intensely, opt for a POWERBAR® Performance bar or POWERBAR® Gel. Because they do not freeze, POWERBAR HARVEST® bars are also great on the ski slopes.
How do POWERBAR HARVEST® bars provide energy?
Between 70 and 75% of the energy in a POWERBAR HARVEST® bar comes from simple and complex carbohydrates, for both immediate and long-lasting energy. POWERBAR HARVEST® is also fortified with 50% RDI of B-complex vitamins, which are important for energy metabolism. And between 11 and 12% of the calories in POWERBAR HARVEST® come from a high quality source of protein.
Is POWERBAR HARVEST® organic? All natural?
Each POWERBAR HARVEST® bar uses natural whole grains such as oats and brown rice, dried fruit pieces, and other minimally processed ingredients, but the bars are not certified organic. The vitamins and minerals used are all derived from natural sources, with the exception of Vitamin E. All bars contain dairy ingredients. Please check the ingredient statement on individual flavors for more information.
Can children eat POWERBAR HARVEST® bars?
A POWERBAR HARVEST® bar is a nutritious addition to a balanced diet. It is a great snack for active, growing children because it is low in fat, high in vitamins and convenient. Kids love the real fruit and crisp rice that give the bar a natural sweetness and crunchy, chewy texture. For children 6 or older, a whole bar is an appropriate addition to a balanced diet. Young children, aged 4 to 6, should be limited to ½ to 1 bar per day. Consult your pediatrician for additional information.
Can I eat POWERBAR HARVEST® during my pregnancy?
Yes. POWERBAR HARVEST® provides essential nutrients like protein, iron, folic acid and vitamin C that your body needs during pregnancy. Additionally, many women have found that POWERBAR HARVEST® is particularly useful during the first few months of pregnancy when nausea can make eating other foods difficult. I'm lactose intolerant. Can I eat POWERBAR HARVEST®?
All POWERBAR HARVEST® flavors contain some milk products. Although the amount of lactose is low enough for nearly all lactose-intolerant people to be able to eat these bars, the small amount of lactose in each bar may cause gastric upset in individuals highly intolerant of lactose.
Is POWERBAR HARVEST® bar approved for diabetics or hypoglycemics?
POWERBAR® products have been used successfully by many diabetics. However, it is important for anyone with diabetes or hypoglycemia to consult a physician before using POWERBAR HARVEST®.
I have food allergies. Can I eat POWERBAR HARVEST® bars?
If you are allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, milk, soy, or gluten (from wheat or barley) you should not eat POWERBAR HARVEST® bars.

Are there any Trans Fatty Acids in POWERBAR HARVEST® bars?
POWERBAR HARVEST® bars do not contain any trans fats. Trans fatty acids are substances that, depending on intake and total dietary patterns, can raise total blood cholesterol levels, and can raise LDL (“bad”) cholesterol and lower HDL (“good”) cholesterol.
Where and why do we use fractionated palm kernel oil?
Some POWERBAR® bars are coated or dipped in a yogurt or chocolaty coating. We believe that these coatings make our bars more delicious and provide our consumers with a greater variety of healthy, convenient snacks to choose from. The coatings contain fractionated palm kernel oil which is solid and stable at room temperature. Regular vegetable oil would cause the coatings to melt at even slightly warm temperatures and is also more prone to rancidity which can lead to undesirable flavor changes.
What is fractionated palm kernel oil?
Fractionated palm kernel oil is made by heating palm kernel oil and removing the liquid portion (or "fraction") as it is cooled. This fractionation process creates a solid fat made up primarily of saturated fats with desirable properties from the standpoint of food manufacture.
Fractionation vs. Hydrogenation
Fractionation is different from the process of hydrogenation, which chemically alters oils. In this process, 'trans fats' are also created. Partially hydrogenated oils are solid and stable at room temperature and found in many current snack foods. However, the National Academy of Sciences has recently recommended that Americans consume as little trans fat as possible within a healthy diet. Although a heart-healthy diet should seek to limit both saturated and trans fats, current guidelines allow up to 10% of daily calories from saturated fat while there is no recommendation yet set for trans fat. This follows scientific evidence showing consumption of trans fat-containing foods increases LDL, or bad, cholesterol, and decreases HDL, or good, cholesterol, thereby increasing risk for heat disease.
Do POWERBAR® products contain Genetically Modified Ingredients?
POWERBAR® uses ingredients that meet our high quality standards and are in full compliance with U.S. government regulations. Genetically modified (GM) crops grown in the US have been reviewed extensively by the FDA, USDA and EPA, who have determined that GM crops are as safe as their conventional counterparts. Because the use of GM crops does not affect the safety or quality of the ingredients made from them, we do not require that our suppliers specify the origin of the crops they use.Will POWERBAR HARVEST® bars freeze?
With its open texture, POWERBAR HARVEST® bar can be consumed in cold weather conditions. However, most food products do harden in freezing temperatures. Try softening the bar by warming it next to your body for a few minutes.
How should I store my POWERBAR HARVEST® bars?
Store POWERBAR HARVEST® bars in a cool, dry place, between 40 degrees and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. POWERBAR HARVEST® bars do not need to be refrigerated. However, storing a Harvest bar in areas where the temperature exceeds 80 degrees for an extended period of time will result in significant changes to the taste, texture, color, and coating of the product.
How long will my POWERBAR HARVEST® bars last?
Each POWERBAR HARVEST® bar is stamped with a “best by” date. Although it is safe to eat POWERBAR HARVEST® after this date, we recommend that you use the bar by the “best by” date to ensure you’re getting the full nutritional benefits of the product.
