Along with tryptophan, tyrosine is used for the treatment of insomnia. It produces melanin, which is the pigment of the skin and hair. It is used to help with states of depression and anxiety. Tyrosine produces norepinephrine which is an appetite suppressor; it also plays an important role in the function of the adrenal, pituitary and thyroid glands. Other possible functions include: increases red and white blood cells; elevates mood; stimulates the release of growth hormone which causes muscle growth and reduces body fat; and it may be useful in the treatment of alcolholism.- Suppresses appetite
