When To Douche
The most obvious is after menustration. But you''ll want to use it at other times as well - after nervous tension, to clean away contraceptive jellies or creams (check your contraceptive instructions first), after intercourse (of course, a douche is only a cleanser, not a contraceptive), to wash away built-up secretions that cause odor, or any time to feel clean and fresh.
SUGGESTED USAGE
1. Twist off cap on top of bottle. If you prefer a slightly warmer than room temperature douche place bottle in warm water for a minute or so.
2. Hold bottle upright and screw on nozzle.
3. Assume a comfortable position. Recline in the tub, stand in the shower or sit on a toilet. Insert nozzle gently into the vagina about 3 inches and squeeze bottle slowly until liquid is used. Avoid closing the lips of the vagina. After douching simply throw away bottle and nozzle.
WARNING: Vaginal douches should not be used more than twice a week, except on advice of your medical provider. If vaginal dryness or irritation occurs, discontinue use. Do not use vaginal douches when pregnant except when advised by a physician. A douche is not a contraceptive and should not be used to prevent pregnancy. It has been reported that a relationship exists between douching and pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), an infection of the reproductive system, characterized by pain or tenderness in the lower part of the abdomen and pelvis; vaginal discharge or bleeding; nausea or fever; frequent urination; and genital sores and ulcers.
PID is a serious disease which could lead to sterility or ectopic pregnancy. Douches should not be used to treat PID or sexually transmitted diseases (STD). If you experience any of these symptoms, or think you have a STD or PID, discontinue use and consult your physician.
